Experienced choral singers or instrumentalists are encouraged to audition for membership in The Austin Singers for the upcoming season.
Rehearsals begin promptly at 6:55 p.m. on Monday evenings. The location for rehearsals is the Choir Room, which is on the lower level, at First Baptist Church, 901 Trinity in downtown Austin. If you wish to arrange an audition, please contact us via e-mail at .
The audition will consist of the following:
sing a song of your choice: aria, folk song, hymn, etc.
sing scales to determine range and voice type
sight-read some simple exercises to diagnose skills in that area
repeat some simple melodies played at the piano
Men must demonstrate their falsetto, head, and chest voices and the ability to go back and forth. Women must demonstrate head and chest voices and the ability to go back and forth.
What to Expect
The audition will last about 10 minutes. Auditions are conducted as an individual session with the director. No accompanist will be present.
